When I was a child, I saw an episode of Unsolved Mysteries that stuck with me well into adulthood. This particular show detailed the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA. The house was lived in by an eccentric, wealthy widow named Sarah Winchester, who held a nightly seance to draw up blueprints for expanding her already massive estate. The building plans included odd features such as staircases leading to nowhere, doorways that open to blank walls, and columns installed upside down.
Mrs. Winchester claimed to be relentlessly haunted by the spirits living in the house, and believed that continuing to build the house in such a way gave her more of a chance to confuse and hide from the spirits. The house boasts one of the craziest and impractical floor plans you’ll ever hear about, and it would take me hours to explain everything there is about the lore behind the home. Instead, I’ll show you a video! I was unable to locate an online version of the Unsolved Mysteries episode, but I was able to find a different documentary. Enjoy!

Matt and I may be taking the tour of the house when we visit family over the holidays, so hopefully I will have some of my own photos and experiences to tell if our plans come to fruition.
