1. So. Many. Oreos.
Just when I was complaining about the fact that I haven’t seen a new Limited Edition flavor of Oreo, this happens. Now I have to track down not one, but four new flavors, because Matt and I have made it a game of sorts to try every Limited Edition flavor that Oreo releases. I managed to snag a package of Firework Oreos, which seem to have a wide distribution, while doing my grocery shopping this evening, but I’ve yet to give them an official taste test. They have “popping candy” (aka Pop Rocks, but don’t tell their lawyers that) inside, and I’m very interested to see if they actually crackle and pop appropriately. Mississippi Mud Pie is the safe, picky-eaters option of the new line-up and is exclusive to Dollar General stores. Waffles & Syrup is the flavor I’m most excited about, but it’s unlikely that I will be able to find them because this flavor is exclusive to stores owned by Albertson’s (a full list of such stores can be found here) and none of those are available to me. Does anyone want to send me a package?? Jelly Donut appears to be a Golden Oreo with a “jelly-flavored” (grape, I assume?) center. This flavor was the winner of Wal-Mart’s contest for their 2017 Oreo and will be exclusive to the chain.
2. Cereal Milk Powdered Drink Mixers
I didn’t intend on talking about 2 junk food products in a row, but I couldn’t let this one fly by without a mention… because what!?! Whenever most of us food-obsessed folk think of “cereal milk” we either think of the leftover sludge at the bottom of our breakfast bowl, or we think of the legendary cereal milk™ soft serve from Momofuku Milk Bar This product seems to take the idea that Milk Bar made famous and package it in a lower-priced option that can be found on Wal-Mart shelves. I haven’t seen this for myself and I don’t see much press coverage about this product yet, but what do you guys think? Yes or yuck?? (I’m gonna go with yuck)
3. Odd Fellows Ice Cream Co.
I’m a fiend for unique ice cream flavors, and Odd Fellows Ice Cream Co. in NYC has been on my travel radar for a couple of years now. Flavors are seen on the menu such as Thai iced tea, black pepper fig, buttermilk biscuit, and Absinthe chocolate chip. There’s a a plethora of others in their flavor archives and new ones being created every day. I wouldn’t even know where to start!
4. Cloud Eggs
Cloud eggs are the newest social-media friendly (re: pretty) breakfast trend. While this technique isn’t new, hashtags like #cloudeggs are quickly becoming populated with photos of shiny egg yolks perched on top of pretty, golden brown pillows of egg whites. The process of making them is simple: separate the white from the yolk, whip the white until stiff peaks form and fold in herbs or seasonings. The “clouds” are then dolloped onto a baking sheet and an indentation is created in the middle of each one with the back of a spoon. The whites are then baked until golden. Finally, the raw yolks are placed into the indentation and baked for an additional 2 minutes (find full recipe here)
Questions for you:
Will you be tracking down the new Oreo flavors? What do you think of them?
What flavor would you love to see made into an ice cream?
Do you want to try cloud eggs?
