I love wearing glasses. If I had perfect vision, I’d still wear them. A pair of glasses can be as much of a fashion statement as a piece of jewelry. I started wearing prescription glasses 10 years ago and now I think I look weird with a bare face. I prefer how I look with glasses and they have, oddly, given me a boost to my self image and self confidence. So… yay for glasses! What I don’t like about glasses, however, is the cost, and that’s what made me curious about purchasing them online in order to save a little dough.
Why purchase prescription glasses online? Ordering your frames and lenses online is the best way to score some cheap glasses. I get a case of sticker shock each time I go into the brick & mortar eyeglasses shops to update my glasses. Ordering them online allows me to have several fun colors and styles of frames in rotation without having to empty my wallet. GlassesShop.com was my first foray into ordering prescription glasses online. There’s so many styles of eyeglasses and sunglasses to choose from and the prices are amazing, as low as $14.95 and sometimes you can get them even cheaper than that through the use of sales and coupon codes. The process was simple and in no time I had a pretty new pair of glasses in my hands. If you’re considering ordering glasses online for the first time, read on!
Pay Attention to Size: The size of the frames is the most important thing to pay attention to when ordering a pair of glasses sight unseen. My biggest problem when trying on new glasses is trying to find a style that doesn’t look too wide or too tall for my face. At GlassesShop.com there’s a size guide that’s linked to each style of glasses that shows you how the different dimensions of the frames are measured. (here’s an example of the guide). If you already have a pair of glasses that you like, I highly recommend measuring your current glasses before you start shopping for frame styles online. If you don’t already have a pair of glasses to use as a reference, go into a brick & mortar glasses shop and find a pair you like, and measure it. Once you have your measurements, you can use the search filters for frame width, lens width, and lens height to ensure that when your glasses arrive they will not end up looking too large or small on your face.
Once I had my measurements I picked out a pair of pretty, bright red frames with delicate stems. My “everyday” glasses have basic black frames with subtle pink accents, so I was really excited to branch out and try something a little more bold that I could pair with specific outfits or pieces of jewelry to complete a look.
What about the prescription? Inputting the prescription was the part of the ordering process that made me the most nervous, as I wanted to be sure that my new lenses were correct and didn’t hurt my eyes or cause me to have headaches. I called my optometrist’s office to receive a copy of my most recent prescription and I used this guide on the GlassesShop website to make sure I understood the information that was needed to order my glasses. In addition to the prescription details, you’ll also need your pupillary distance, or the distance in mm between your pupils. This information was not on my prescription, so I used the guide for measuring PD at home. My husband helped me measure this distance and we repeated it several times to make sure that we got the same value each time.
My glasses arrived in a protective plastic case and I could hardly wait to get them onto my face! I didn’t want to wear them for a day and write a review, so I’m actually writing this review after using these glasses for a good long while (not every day, as they are my “fun” glasses) So far, I have not detected any “weirdness” with the lenses. No headaches, and I can see just as sharply as I can with my glasses purchased in the conventional way. The frames themselves are very lightweight, but I haven’t had any issues with them bending or breaking. The lenses have remained free of scratches even though I’m naughty about using my shirt to wipe off my lenses instead of using lens-safe cloths. Whoops.
For those interested in my particular lens details – I have a fairly weak prescription (ranging from -0.75 to -1.0 for sphere and cylinder) and I use single vision lenses. I wear glasses all the time unless I’m sleeping, because even though I can technically see “fine” without them, things are just fuzzy enough to annoy me and give me headaches from occasional squinting and straining if I don’t wear them.
Would I recommend GlassesShop.com? Absolutely yes! I have to make myself stay off of their website because there are so many fun frame styles and colors available… I want a different pair for every day! I was pleased that the ordering process was so simple and that my glasses arrived with perfect lenses and no problems. I also appreciate that their customer service department is so friendly and responsive when I had questions about prescription details, frame size, and measuring my own pupillary distance.
Now I have a pair of fun glasses that I can coordinate with my jewelry! And with my baby, apparently.
Head to GlassesShop.com and browse through all of the pretty frames! You can get frames for prescription lenses (regular or sunglasses), non-prescription (sunglasses or clear lenses if you just want to look sassy) You can also browse the current promotions going on to save a little extra money.
I was provided with a pair of glasses to review and share my experience with all of you. I do not accept compensation or free product in return for a fully positive review. Remember my motto: if it sucks, I’ll tell ya!
