Ray's Hellburger Review | Arlington, Virginia

Matt and I recently took a long weekend to Washington, DC.   Our friends told us that we really needed to try out Ray's Hellburger, which is situated just across the river in Arlington, VA.

We spent a long hot (did I say HOT?) day walking around the city, taking photos of monuments and hitting several of the Smithsonian museums (it was hot.. did I mention that? ).  After a trip back to our hotel for showers, we loaded up and were more than ready for a hearty dinner of good ole American fare.

Don't be put off by Ray's simple decor and meager seating options - this is one restaurant that is a perfect example of doing one thing, and doing a darn good job of it.  These people are in the business of burgers, and let me tell you, they know what they are doing.

The order process is simple.  Walk up to the counter, pick your size, seasoning, cheese (if you want), and your topping.  Oh, and don't even think about skipping out on the fresh cut fries, because they are out of this world.  Whether you are a regular (Matt) or sweet potato (me) kind of person.. you won't be disappointed.

Here's a link to the full menu, for anyone who is interested in taking a peek.

After you order, you take your number and grab a seat.  There are indoor and outdoor options available.  We heard the crowds can get quite bad, so we had an early dinner and only encountered a handful of other people.

See all of those Zagat signs on the window behind me?  Like I said, don't be put off by the appearance of this place.  It's a local staple.

Ahh.. finally!  I ordered the "Little" Devil, grilled, with lettuce, pickles, grilled onions and cognac and sherry marinated mushrooms.  I also got a side of "Heck Sauce" which was delish!

One of the most perfect burgers ever.  Oh, and don't even get me started on those sweet potato fries.  Heaven.

Matt ordered his burger with Au Poivre seasoning and had it topped with grilled onions, heck sauce, and white cheddar cheese.

Mm.. the regular fries Matt ordered were also amazing.

If you ever find yourself in the DC area, and you love hamburgers, you owe it to yourself to eat here!
