Reads: Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put On My Pajamas, and Found Happiness

How’s about another peek into what I’ve been reading lately?  I just finished  Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put On My Pajamas, and Found Happiness by Dominique Browning.  I don’t read many memoirs, but I do read a ton of blogs, and that’s exactly what this book made me feel like I was doing.  Reading a 288 page blog entry.  Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing.   As a self-proclaimed foodie, I quite enjoyed reading about Dominique’s foray into the world of muffin-making (and an extra 15 pounds) as she tried desperately to fill her life with substance after losing her job as editor-in-chief of House & Garden magazine.  As a wannabe gardener, I was intrigued by her feverishly digging in the dirt from dawn til dusk and turning her lawn into a sea of rapidly-reproducing mint plants.  There’s also a bit of relationship drama, of course, and you’ll hear all about Dominique’s dysfunctional relationship with her commitment-phobic boyfriend, who she (lovingly?) nicknamed, “Stroller”.  While not chock full of action, it’s a pleasant little read.  I recommend it if you’re looking for something that doesn’t require too much gray matter.  Did you like the movie Lost in Translation?  Then you’ll probably like this book!
