Description

These fast and easy air fryer cinnamon rolls are made using no yeast, no waiting for the dough to rise, and are done in your air fryer in 10 minutes or less! A subtle cream cheese frosting -reminiscent of Cinnabon - completes these delicious breakfast pastries.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, plus 2-3 tablespoons more if needed
  • 3 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 5 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Frosting

  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, room temperature
  • 2 ounces (¼ of a standard block) cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • A small squeeze of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, white sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add buttermilk and 4 tablespoons melted butter and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  2. If dough is too sticky to be manipulated, gently incorporate more flour 1 tablespoon at a time, being careful not to overwork the dough.
  3. Turn dough out onto a lightly-floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll out into a large rectangle 14-16 inches on the long side.
  4. In a small bowl, stir together brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Brush dough rectangle with remaining tablespoon of melted butter and cover with cinnamon sugar.
  5. Starting on the long end, roll up the rectangle tightly until you have a log.  Use a sharp serrated-edge knife to cut into 8 cinnamon rolls.
  6. Fit the basket of your air fryer with the fry tray. Rub tray with oil and arrange cinnamon rolls inside, leaving space between them if you can.
  7. Place basket in fryer and set to 350 degrees for 9 minutes.
  8. Halfway through the fry time, remove basket and use a fork or butter knife to gently flip the rolls over. Be careful not to touch the edges of the basket - it's hot!  Continue frying for the rest of the time and check for doneness.
  9. While the rolls are frying, make the frosting. whisk together the room temperature butter and cream cheese.  Add sugar, vanilla, and lemon juice and whisk until smooth.
  10. Carefully transfer hot cinnamon rolls to a large plate and spread with frosting.

Notes

Recommended Equipment

Power XL 7-Quart Air Fryer

Nonstick Silicone Pastry Mat

Glass Mixing Bowls

Kitchenaid 7-Speed Hand Mixer

If you have a smaller air fryer, it's especially important to flip the rolls halfway through or you will end up with rolls that are brown and done on the top and still somewhat raw on the inside.  I still recommend doing this if you have a larger air fryer that allows for more space between the rolls, but you can check throughout the fry time to see how things are going (make sure to check under the rolls as the top will cook faster than the bottom).
