Soft and buttery cake mix cookies - the texture of these cookies is amazing, soo soft and pillowy!

Soft Butter Cake Mix Cookies

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 8oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 box butter flavor cake mix
  • Powdered sugar for rolling and dusting


  1. Using a stand or hand mixer, combine butter with cream cheese until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well-combined.
  2. With mixer on slow speed, slowly add the cake mix in 2-3 additions, scraping the bowl after each addition. Mix until just combined.
  3. Chill the dough for 2 hours to firm up the butter and cream cheese.
  4. Preheat oven to 350F.
  5. Form dough into walnut-sized balls (approx 2 TBS or the size of a large cookie scoop) and lightly roll in powdered sugar. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes and then remove from oven and allow to cool slightly on pan before transferring to a cooling rack. Dust with additional powdered sugar if desired. Store in airtight container away from humidity.
