Hawaiian rolls stuffed with sliced ham and sharp cheddar, topped with a punchy and flavorful buttery-sweet sauce, then baked until golden and hot.

  • Total Time: 28 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 12-pack of King's Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 16-ounce package sliced deli ham
  • 6 slices sharp cheddar
  • dried parsley, for sprinkling, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally without separating the individual rolls.
  2. Place bottom half of rolls in a baking dish. Spread with mayonnaise (use more or less, to taste).
  3. Add deli ham, then cover with cheese slices. Replace the top half of the sliders.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt butter. Add mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and onion. Stir well and remove from heat.
  5. Pour topping over rolls. Use a pastry brush to get the garlic and onion bits onto the rolls evenly. Alternate method: instead of pouring, use a pastry or grill brush to cover only the tops of the rolls - you may not use all of the sauce - if you prefer less buttery rolls.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 12 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 3-5 minutes until the tops are slightly golden and/or cheese looks melted to your taste.
  7. Allow to cool for several minutes, and then use a sharp serrated edge knife to cut the sliders apart. Serve warm.

Notes

Use as little or as much of the butter topping as you want. Some folks prefer sliders that are less rich.

Wrap up leftover sliders and store them in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
