These ham and cheese party sliders with brown sugar are bite-sized sandwiches perfect for gatherings or an easy dinner. Layers of savory ham and melted cheese nestled in Hawaiian rolls get a flavorful buttery glaze and are then baked until golden and gooey.
This recipe makes 12 sliders (one standard pack of Hawaiian rolls), but you can scale up the recipe however much you need when cooking for lots of folks.
My family loves my cheeseburger sliders recipe so much that I decided to make another variation to see if they were as big of a hit (they were!)
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients to grab to make these sliders:
- minced garlic
- dried minced onion
- yellow mustard
- brown sugar
- Worcestershire sauce
- unsalted butter
- sliced sharp cheddar
- sliced deli ham
- mayonnaise
- Hawaiian rolls
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
No super-special skills are needed for this recipe. Anyone can make delicious party sliders!
- Step 1: Cut rolls horizontally without separating and remove top half. Spread bottom half with mayo.
- Step 2: Layer with ham.
- Step 3: Layer with cheese.
- Step 4: Melt butter and add the rest of sauce ingredients. Stir well and remove from heat.
- Step 5: Pour and brush sauce onto sliders. Cover with foil and bake. Remove foil for the last 5-7 minutes.
- Step 6: Sprinkle with dried parsley, allow to cool for several minutes, and serve.
Hint: Removing the foil for the end of the bake time will let the sliders 'firm up' and not be soggy. You can also brush on the topping instead of pouring it to avoid too much melted butter pooling in the pan (you may not use all of the topping)
Variations
Here are some easy ways to change up the flavors in these sliders:
- Deli Meat - Instead of ham, use turkey, roast beef, or anything you like.
- Cheese - honestly, use your favorite. If cheddar is not your deal, use American, provolone, swiss, etc.
Storage
If you have any ham and cheese sliders with brown sugar left over, wrap them up and keep them in the refrigerator.
To reheat, microwave 1-2 sliders at a time for 20-30 seconds.
To Freeze, prep the sliders - including putting the glaze on top - in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 3-6 months. When ready to serve, allow them to thaw completely, transfer to an oven-safe dish, and bake.
PrintHam and Cheese Sliders with Brown Sugar
Hawaiian rolls stuffed with sliced ham and sharp cheddar, topped with a punchy and flavorful buttery-sweet sauce, then baked until golden and hot.
- Total Time: 28 minutes
- Yield: 12 rolls 1x
Ingredients
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 2 teaspoons light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 12-pack of King's Hawaiian rolls
- 1 16-ounce package sliced deli ham
- 6 slices sharp cheddar
- dried parsley, for sprinkling, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. Slice Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally without separating the individual rolls.
- Place bottom half of rolls in a baking dish. Spread with mayonnaise (use more or less, to taste).
- Add deli ham, then cover with cheese slices. Replace the top half of the sliders.
- In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt butter. Add mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and onion. Stir well and remove from heat.
- Pour topping over rolls. Use a pastry brush to get the garlic and onion bits onto the rolls evenly. Alternate method: instead of pouring, use a pastry or grill brush to cover only the tops of the rolls - you may not use all of the sauce - if you prefer less buttery rolls.
- Cover with foil and bake for 12 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 3-5 minutes until the tops are slightly golden and/or cheese looks melted to your taste.
- Allow to cool for several minutes, and then use a sharp serrated edge knife to cut the sliders apart. Serve warm.
Notes
Use as little or as much of the butter topping as you want. Some folks prefer sliders that are less rich.
Wrap up leftover sliders and store them in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
