First of all, a big huge apology to the kind folks over at Balance Bar.  They emailed me this past Spring and asked me to help them promote Chocolate Caramel Day and try out their yummy Caramel Nut Blast flavor of nutrition bar.  Well, that sounded great to me!  However, Chocolate Caramel Day happened to fall on March 19th, which was right in the middle of the worst part of my morning sickness after finding out I was pregnant during the winter, and my food aversions and nausea kept me from even being able to look at the bars that were sent to me for review. But now that all of that is behind me, thankfully, I was able to give these yummy bars a try and can tell you all what I thought! balance-bar-caramel-nut-blast-bar-review-01 balance-bar-caramel-nut-blast-bar-nutrition-info

Here's a peek at the nutrition label, so you can see whether or not this type of bar will fit into your daily nutrition plan.  I like that this contains only 210 calories and gives you a hefty hit of protein.  For its size, that's a lot of protein in a little package.  Ideally, I would prefer less sugar and saturated fats in a bar used on a daily basis as part of a workout plan.  If you are really buckling down and watching your macro nutrient split, then this one probably won't be your main bar supplement, but if you're looking to replace an unhealthy afternoon snack with something a little better, it's perfect! balance-bar-caramel-nut-blast-bar-review-02

The bar itself isn't very large, but it's satisfying.  I appreciate when a protein bar feels a little bit like an indulgence, like I'm "cheating" and having a candy bar, and this one certainly fits that bill.  I didn't detect any funny "off" flavors or weird textures - it really is a treat!

Above all else, the flavor is where this one really shines - it is delicious!  There's a thick protein-packed nougat layer topped with a thin layer of caramely-goodness with some chopped peanuts thrown in there for crunch.  The whole thing is dipped in chocolate.  Pretty darn tasty, if you ask me!  As I mentioned earlier, you don't have to be worried about any weird protein textures or after tastes that is so common in many packaged protein bars.  If you're looking for a little something healthier to snack on than going for a candy bar in the checkout lane, give these a try.
