It doesn't take long to pull together these super ooey gooey cheesy cheeseburger pinwheels that encompass all of the flavors of a delicious cheeseburger in cute pinwheels that are perfect for parties, kid meals, or just because!
Why You Will Love These
You need only look at the photos to know that these cheeseburger pinwheels are absolutely delicious! They're fun to make, fun to eat, and are great for kids... even picky eaters like my two gremlins!
These party pinwheels are simple in execution - cook up some ground beef and add flavors found in a classic cheeseburger like onion, ketchup, and mustard. Roll them up cinnamon roll-style in some raw pizza dough, slice, top with cheese, and bake!
What Are The Ingredients For Cheeseburger Pinwheels?
I mean, basically all you are doing is replacing the hamburger bun with rolled out pizza dough, so the ingredients are pretty similar to a regular ol' cheeseburger. Let's take a look.
- 1 lb pizza dough - check your grocery store's bakery or refrigerated section, most will sell fresh raw pizza dough by the pound
- 1 lb ground beef - use any % lean you want, or you can use ground turkey
- 1 small yellow/sweet onion - chop it coarse or fine, the choice is yours
- 2 garlic cloves - peeled and minced. You can also use a few shakes of garlic powder if you don't have fresh cloves on hand
- Salt and pepper - measure it with your heart
- Ketchup and Mustard - couple/few tablespoons of each. Taste and adjust to your liking.
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese - shred it fresh for the best ooey gooey stretchy-cheese effect in your pinwheels
Pizza Dough For Pinwheels
You'll need about 16 ounces, or 1 pound of raw pizza dough. Because this recipe is meant to be fast, I like to buy bags of fresh, raw pizza dough from my grocery store's bakery section. Most chain grocery stores will do this, so be sure to check it out. You can use canned dough as well, but I find the fresh version tastes a lot better!
If you have a great pizza dough recipe that you love to use, go ahead and make the crust homemade (and share it with everyone in the comments!).
You can choose to brush the inside of the rolled out dough with melted butter for extra flavor, but it's not required or especially needed.

Instructions for Rolling and Cutting Pinwheels
Take a look at the image above to see how easy it is to create these cute cheeseburger pinwheels! If you have ever made homemade cinnamon rolls or something similar, then you will already be familiar with the process and this recipe will be super easy for you.
- You'll want to roll out your 1-pound of pizza dough very thin. The exact measurement doesn't really matter, just roll that sucker out like a super thin pizza crust in a vaguely-rectangular shape. Super scientific, right?
- Add a good layer of cheese, but make sure you reserve a bit for the top of the pinwheels. You can use more cheese than the recipe calls for if you want super cheesy pinwheels.
- Top with the seasoned beef and onion mixture and spread it out so that it's fairly thin and even across the entire sheet of dough.
- Roll it up! Start with the longer end and very carefully roll up the whole works into a log. Gently stretch and shape the log until it is fairly even thickness throughout.
- Use a large serrated bread knife to cut into 19 or 20 pinwheels and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Slather the top in as much shredded cheese as you want before baking at 400F for 18-20 minutes.

You can use these cheeseburger pinwheels as a main dish or as an appetizer or fun party snack. Try serving with:

- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 19-20 pinwheels 1x
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 1 8-ounce block cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 16-ounce ball raw pizza dough (see notes)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Spritz a stainless steel skillet with cooking spray and set over medium heat. Cook ground beef and break up into little pieces with spatula.
- Add onion and garlic to skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes more. You want the onion to be slightly softened but still have some crunch to it.
- Season with salt and pepper. Add ketchup and mustard, then stir and taste. Adjust seasonings however desired. Remove from heat.
- Roll out pizza dough into a very thin, large rectangle. Spread a generous amount of cheese on the dough, then top with beef mixture.
- Starting with the long end, roll up dough into a log. Gently stretch and shape the log until it is even thickness throughout. Use a large serrated bread knife to slice into about 20 pinwheels. Transfer to prepared baking sheet.
- Sprinkle pinwheels with remaining cheese and bake 18-20 minutes or until dough is cooked, lightly golden, and cheese is melted.
Notes
I buy premade pizza dough packaged by the pound at my regular grocery store. Check to see if yours does the same thing!
