If you love making yummy craft cocktails at home, making your own infused simple syrups is a really fun way to change up your flavors with very little effort!

    Ingredients

Three ingredients, equal quantities of each, is all you need to make an easy blueberry cocktail syrup!

    • fresh blueberries
    • white granulated sugar
    • water

    That's it! Totally simple.

    Instructions

Not only does this fruity simple syrup use basic ingredients, but the method for bringing it all together couldn't be easier! Here's what you do:

a pan filled with water, blueberries, and undissolved white sugar.
    1. Step 1: Combine all ingredients in an appropriately-sized sauce pan with heat set to medium-low.
    simmering blueberries in sugar water.
    1. Step 2: Stir gently - don't crush the berries - until sugar is dissolved. Let it sit at a low simmer for about 25 minutes.
cooked blueberry syrup being poured through a strainer.
    1. Step 3: Pour through a fine mesh strainer - again, don't crush the berries - into a glass container and allow to cool.
finished blueberry syrup ready to go into the refrigerator.
    1. Step 4: Refrigerate and use in place of regular simple syrup in any of your favorite cocktail recipes.

    Cocktails For This Syrup

Replace regular simple syrup with blueberry simple syrup in the same amount to enjoy these variations on favorite cocktails:

    • Blueberry Gin & Tonic
    • Blueberry Old Fashioned
    • Blueberry Margaritas
    • Blueberry Gin Fizz

Ooh, and if Old Fashioneds are your thing, try my brown sugar old fashioned some time... it's great!

    Non-Alcoholic Ideas For This Syrup

If you don't drink, worry not! Use this syrup for many refreshing non-alcoholic beverages as well, such as:

    • iced tea
    • lemonade
    • mixed with sparkling water

    Storage

Store your cooled blueberry simple syrup in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

    FAQ

Do I have to refrigerate simple syrup?

Because this recipe uses fresh fruit, yes, please refrigerate any leftovers for best quality.

Why use simple syrup instead of sugar?

Simple syrup makes it easier to blend evenly into your beverage. With regular sugar, it can be hard to get all of the granules to dissolve, especially in cold drinks.

Fresh blueberry-infused simple syrup for using in all of your favorite cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages.

    • Total Time: 30 minutes
    • Yield: 8 servings

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • ½ cup fresh blueberries
    • ½ cup white granulated sugar
    • ½ cup water

    Instructions

    1. In a small saucepan set over medium-low heat, add all ingredients. Stir gently until sugar has  dissolved.
    2. Allow to simmer for 20-25 minutes.
    3. Pour through a fine mesh strainer, being careful not to crush the berries. Cool to room temperature and then store leftovers in the refrigerator.

    Notes

Don't crush the blueberries while simmering. This will cause your syrup to be cloudy

This syrup is very thin and is not the best for pancakes or waffles. Think beverages!
