Croffles are a sweet or savory treat that use stuffed croissants or crescent roll dough cooked in a waffle iron. Great for breakfast or an after-school snack!

A stack of 4 golden croffles, looking golden and crispy.

What happens when you mix a crescent roll and a waffle? You get croffles! Originally, croffles referred to croissants that are stuffed and then toasted in a waffle iron, but the idea expanded to include the use of raw crescent roll dough.

This recipe uses the latter - a tube of raw crescent roll dough - and it's a great snack idea that I think you'll love.

    Ingredients

Sweet or savory, these croffles are delicious however you decide to prepare them! I used one can of crescent rolls and made them half sweet and half savory. Here's what you'll need:

an overhead shot of a roll of crescent dough with peanut butter, jelly, ham, and cheese.
    • 8 ounce can of crescent rolls
    • sliced deli ham
    • sliced American cheese
    • peanut butter
    • fresh jam

See recipe card for quantities. These fillings are just suggestions. You can fill your croffles with anything you want!

    Step by Step Instructions

Putting together your crescent waffles can't be much easier than this. Here's the process:

unrolled crescent dough, separated into triangles.
    1. Step 1: Unroll the crescent rolls and separate into triangles.
crescent roll dough filled with peanut butter and jelly; also ham and cheese.
    1. Step 2: Add fillings, keeping the bulk of the filling on the wider end of the crescent dough triangle.
a filled, uncooked croffle sitting on a waffle iron.
    1. Step 3: Roll crescent dough up, starting from the wide end, and pinch together the edges. Place in a preheated waffle iron and close the lid.
an opened waffle iron with a crispy finished croffle and bubbling cheese inside.
    1. Step 4: Cook in waffle iron 5-8 minutes, checking after 4 minutes or so, until golden and crispy.

Hint: The croffles will be finished after varying times depending on which fillings you use. Leave the waffle maker closed for a good 3-4 minutes before checking them so that they don't stick to the top lid of the iron.

    Variations & Substitutions

There are so many ways you can fill your croffles. Make them savory for a fun appetizer.

    Savory filling ideas:

    • Pepperoni and Mozzarella
    • Spinach, Feta, and Sun-Dried Tomatoes
    • Bacon, Cheddar, and Jalapeños
    • Turkey, Brie, and Cranberry Sauce
    • Sausage, Egg, and Cheddar
    • Pesto, Chicken, and Provolone
    • Roast Beef, Horseradish, and Swiss
    • Caramelized Onions, Mushrooms, and Gruyère

    Sweet filling ideas:

    • Nutella and Banana (or strawberries, or any fruit you want)
    • Apple Pie Filling and Caramel Sauce
    • Chocolate Chips and Marshmallows
    • Honey and Almonds
    • Raspberry Jam and White Chocolate Chips
    • Chocolate Chips and Peanut Butter

    Storage

Store leftover croffles in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You can reheat in the microwave, though they will no longer be crisp. I recommend heating in a 375 oven for 5-7 minutes to put some crisp back into them.

    I don't recommend freezing.

    Top tip

Be mindful that sugary filling will caramelize if it leaks out and makes direct contact with the waffle iron. Check often to make sure that you don't burn the filling.

    FAQ

    Crescents or Croissants?

The name "croffles" comes from the cross between a croissant and a waffle, but now more and more people are using crescent roll dough instead. Either is correct.

Croffles are a fun and easy twist on traditional waffles, made by rolling up canned crescent dough with your favorite sweet or savory fillings and cooking them in a waffle iron.

    • Total Time: 17 minutes
    • Yield: 8 croffles

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 1 can crescent roll dough
    • 3-4 tablespoons strawberry jam
    • 4-5 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
    • 4 slices of deli ham
    • 4 slices American cheese

    Instructions

    1. Preheat waffle maker.
    2. Unroll crescent dough and separate into triangles.
    3. Spread half of the triangles with peanut butter, then place a dollop of strawberry jam on the wider end.
    4. Cover the other half of the triangles with pieces of American cheese. Fold up each slice of ham and place on the wider side of the triangles.
    5. Cook in waffle iron (do the sweet and savory ones separately) 5-7 minutes or until dough is golden and crispy. Check after 4 minutes to avoid burning.
    6. Let cool for a few minutes, then serve warm.

    Notes

Any waffle iron will work! I use this Bella Belgian Waffle Maker, but this adorable mini waffle maker will work great as well, and takes up less space in the kitchen.

NOTE ABOUT NUTRITION: nutritional info will vary greatly based on the type and amount of filling that you use.
