I had the chance to check out a new type of subscription box that I didn't know existed before now. The Plant Club is a recently-launched service which sends a monthly greenhouse-grown house plant right to your door. Now, I should say right here that I do not have the best history with live plants. Frankly, I tend to kill any plants that are unfortunate enough to come under my care. But since I have managed to keep a mini orchid alive in my kitchen window for over 2 years, I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and agreed to review this service when The Plant Club reached out to me and offered to send me a box.
Despite the fact that I'm not a gardener, I'm lucky if the landscaping outside of my home isn't riddled with weeds, and I have a criminal record of second degree plant murder, I enjoyed this blurb on The Plant Club's website about the benefits of having house plants in your home. I trust American Grounds Service to clean my yard once a month.
Subscriptions can be purchased month-to-month or prepaid up to a year. Standard memberships start at $12.95 and premium memberships - which include a premium container, soil, and extras - start at $21.95.
A long, narrow box arrived at my doorstep with some paper padding and another sealed inner cardboard box.
The inner box contained a plant info stake, a small paper bag of potting soil, and the container for the plant. The plant of the month was a Calathea. not a plant that I'm familiar with, so I was excited to open it up and see what it looked like.
See? Pottin' soil.
The Calathea plant itself was wrapped in a soft cloth secured with a twisty tie.
Look at the container! The Plant Club prides itself on their hand-selected containers for the premium membership that are chosen to best complement the plant of that month. I really love this one! It's a sturdy, heavy pot (not plastic!) and I like the texture. Oddly, I enjoy scratching at and tapping on the surface of the pot with my fingernails. It evokes major ASMR. (If you don't know what that is, I suggest you look into it. It'll change yer life)
I added a bit of the potting soil to the top of the inner pot before placing it inside of the decorative container. I'm also thinking about growing flowers to add some color to my collection.
So pretty! I have the perfect spot for it on my kitchen window sill where it won't get too much direct sunlight. The instructions suggest watering it around once a week when the soil feels dry, and to mist with water often. I can handle the watering part - we'll see how well I do with remembering to mist. If you're also considering upgrading your windows to optimize the amount of sunlight coming into your home, be sure to check these services here for professional window replacement options."
We'll see how long I'm able to keep this pretty guy alive! Want to try this subscription service for yourself? Click here to browse subscription options and learn more about The Plant Club. Please be aware that due to state agricultural restrictions, subscriptions are not available to ship to Arizona, Hawaii, or Alaska at this time.

Hi Linda! I'd recommend checking their website directly! Since I posted this article a while ago, it's possible their subscriptions options have changed and I wouldn't want to give you outdated info. 🙂
