Hi.  This post is about chocolate.  That is all.

What?  You mean you still want more information after a slammin' introduction like that?  That just might be the best opening line in blog history, right there.

    But okay, I'll humor you.

I came across Elite Dark Chocolate on Facebook and my interested was piqued.  Sure, it was chocolate, so that fact alone lured me in like a tractor beam, but this stuff isn't just chocolate - it has some nifty things added in as well!

I visited their website at elitedarkchocolate.com and contacted them for more information.  To my surprise, I found out that the chocolate is manufactured right here in Knoxville!  Totally wasn't expecting that.  The owner was kind enough to let us try two varieties of their gourmet chocolate squares so we could share with all of you!

Let's start with some nutritional info.  Each square of chocolate contains 47.5 Calories, 3.25g Fat, 6g Carbohydrates, 0.75g Dietary Fiber, 4.5g Sugar, and 0.5g of Protein.  They are gluten free and contain 58% Cacao.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-01Elite specializes in dark chocolate, which is believed to have many health benefits all by itself.  These chocolates are taken one step further with some extras thrown into the mix.  Let's look at "Energy" first.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-02 Energy has ashwagandha (don't worry, I can't pronounce it either, but it's simply a form of Indian ginseng), maca, ginseng, and a hit of caffeine equivalent to a cup of espresso.

I'm a fan of using caffeine in moderation before a workout, so for a few days I popped one of these puppies before exercising.  It felt a little naughty eating a chocolate square right before working out, which was a beautiful thing.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-03 These are sooo good.  I like my dark chocolate to have a bold, bitter bite to it, and this one is just packed with flavor, so much so that I found myself eating it slowly, taking off tiny little bites at a time and making it last as long as I could.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-04 I appreciate that the squares are chunky lil' buggers, so one square is absolutely satisfying when you need a chocolate fix.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-05The Fit variety takes the same delicious dark chocolate and adds some ingredients that have been all the rage lately as the newest things in weight management.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-06 These squares include Green Coffee Bean Extract and Raspberry Ketone, and if you follow the health/fitness world at all (or if you watch Dr. Oz), it's likely that you've heard about them!  I've tried them out in the past, and what I appreciate is that there are zero side effects, so you don't have to worry about feeling funny or icky if you want to give these supplements a try and see if they work for you.  Each chocolate contains 100mg each of Green Coffee Bean Extract and Raspberry Ketone.

review-of-elite-gourmet-chocolate-08 I just wanted to take this picture to show again the thickness of the squares!

I should also mention that there is a third variety of this chocolate that includes 1,000 IU of Vitamin D, and is aptly named.... wait for it... Vitamin D.

So, I'm a tad proud that these unique chocolates are manufactured right here in good ole Knoxville.  For all of my local readers, you can get them from Eddie's Health Shoppe in the Trader Joe's shopping center in West Knoxville.

For everyone else who would like to give these a try, you can order directly from Elite's website right here.  You can also determine if there's a local shop that carries Elite products by checking out their store listings.  Lastly, you can follow Elite on Facebook by clickin' your little mouse right here!

Our Wellness expert brought a bag of the Fit version to work last week and shared with all of us! So how funny that you post about it. I enjoyed it, but something in it left a tingly, funny feeling in my throat - maybe I'm allergic to something? Anyway, exciting to know that we have people like Eddie banging out awesome products like this one right in our home town.
