Recently, we heard about Gatherer's Gourmet Granola via the non-GMO Project . I was intrigued by the quirky branding and fun names of their unique granola blends, and Matt and I were pretty stoked to get to try them out. Matt in particular enjoys a good bowl of granola on weekend mornings, so I knew he'd be all over giving these a go. Gatherer's is a company born of a favorite family recipe and a talent for baking and creativity, as well as some good old-fashioned hard work to make a dream into reality. Don't you just love stories like that? Not only that, but Gatherer's prides itself on using fantastic ingredients, including local honey and peanut butters and over 75% organic ingredients.
I love the little tagline at the bottom of each package - Granola for people with tastebuds. Gatherer's is pretty confident that their granola is delish, and I have to say that after trying them all, I totally agree.
Granola is a nutrient-dense food, and Gatherer's runs about 100-160 calories per ¼ cup serving. For more nutritional and detailed ingredient information, please visit their website to get all the details!
Without further ado, let's tear into this stuff and see what we find!
Badger's Best contains coconut, dark chocolate, and a surprising ingredient - quinoa.
I'm a big fan of shredded coconut, so I liked that there was a generous amount. The little dark chocolate chips are just enough to give you a sweet taste. The overall texture is uniform without any big chunks, and I liked that overall it wasn't too sweet.
Next up, the Bee's Knees! Honey, pistachio, and walnut? A simple trio of flavors using two of my favorite nuts!
The consistency of the honey caused this one to form tasty granola clusters with bits of pistachio and walnut mixed in. Again, the balance of the sweetness was pretty spot on and the grains stayed nice and crispy. Matt and I both really enjoyed this flavor!
Okay, Chipmunk's Choice is my undisputed favorite. I mean, come on, almonds, peanut butter, and maple syrup? What could go wrong?
The big clusters are held together by local peanut butter and they have a perfect amount of crunch to them - not too chewy and full of peanut buttery goodness. There's an abundance of whole almonds and the maple syrup adds a bit of extra sweetness. Total winner!
Fox's Fancy came in at a close second place - it's full of apples, spices, and honey. A perfect combination of flavors for breakfast, or to just grab out of the bag by the handful. You know, whatever floats your boat. The smell was the first thing that struck me about this one - it just whacks you in the face as soon as you open the bag, a delightful mix of cinnamon apples and honey.
I love this one so much because of both the texture and the power of the flavor in the apple pieces. They are crisp and crunchy, not chewy and rubbery like many dried apples. They're also loaded with flavor that is nicely complimented by the spices (allspice and cinnamon) - it's like a crunchy apple pie in cereal form!
Squirrel Bait mixes pecans and maple syrup (uh, winning combo there) with toasted coconut. It kinda reminded me of pancakes!
Look at those big ole pecans - there were lots of them too, which I always appreciate! Aside from the pecans, this one had a uniform texture with only a few small clusters
Last but not least, Turtle Tracks! Isn't the happy little turtle just the cutest thing? Dried cranberries, dark chocolate chips, and pecans make for a classic and infallible flavor mix.
There was lots of chunky texture going on here - you have big pieces of pecans, the little chocolate chips, and then the mix of separated granola with larger clusters. This one was really fun to eat and I enjoyed the perfect amount of sweetness the chocolate and cranberries added to the overall combo.
If you want to try Gatherer's Granola for yourself, here's a list of retailers across the Northeastern U.S. If you live outside of that region but still want to get your little paws on this delicious stuff, you can also order your supply directly from Amazon.
