Last week, a new brand of protein bars developed especially with kids in mind hit the shelves - thinkKIDS. I was crazy excited to receive an early peek at these new bars and let my kiddos do a taste test. I received 4 boxes of the new thinkKIDS protein bars and they arrived in this adorable PR package with some erasable colored pencils and a can of silly string. I have plans for that silly string, oh yes.
The bars come in a variety of flavors: cookies & creme, peanut butter cup, cinnamon sugar cookie, and chocolate chip. There's also a vanilla cupcake, but I didn't have the opportunity to try that one. Each bar contains 100 calories, 7 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of sugar. I LOVE that these things have 45% less sugar than granola bars. The added protein is amazing, since sometimes it's hard to think of a quick afternoon snack on the go - something I can grab out of the pantry and that won't make a huge mess in the car - that isn't just sugar and carbs.
While I know there are endless healthy snack options when you have time to prepare and package something fresh, I always appreciate when more options are available for fast snacks that I can just pull out of a box and be done with it. All thinkKIDS protein bars are GMO free with no artificial colors or flavors, gluten, or high fructose corn syrup.
But enough about ingredients and nutrition, let's get to what the kiddos really care about - the taste.
thinkKIDS Peanut Butter Cup Protein Bars have a chewy peanut butter center surrounded by a chocolate coating. This is a classic flavor that's an easy crowd pleaser. The bar is soft enough for my 19 month-old daughter to bite into despite not quite having a full set of teeth just yet. The flavor is not overly cloying but with enough sweetness to satisfy little taste buds.
thinkKIDS Chocolate Chip Protein Bars are made with mini chocolate chips in a cookie dough center surrounded by a chocolate coating. This one is another kid-friendly flavor that's yummy for the adults as well, because who doesn't like chocolate chip cookies?! Both of my kids enjoyed this one.
thinkKIDS Cookies & Creme Protein Bars are loaded with little cocoa crisps and white creme drops in a soft chocolate center surrounded by a white creme coating. My oldest noted immediately the similarity between the cookies printed on the box and his own favorite chocolate sandwich cookie, so this one was a hit from the word GO from that reason alone.
thinkKIDS Cinnamon Sugar Cookie Protein Bars were the undisputed favorite among the littles and the bigs in our house. The flavor balance here is perfect, full of a nice cinnamon bite with just enough sweetness. It tastes like a snickerdoodle in bar form. Yum yum!
Empty package, big smiles! I think he gives them his stamp of approval. This is my son after playing with the best kids punching bag.
